Design and architecture

The architectural aspects of a software application determine to a large degree the costs for the application in it's full lifecycle.

The knowledge of proven architectural patterns, careful design and the usage of agile methods and test driven design guarantee that the architecture of an application will remain adaptive to future changes and not cost too much. The full lifecycle of a software application is often longer than what is estimated in the design phase and the change and extension costs of the full lifecycle can easily be higher than the costs of the inital design and implementation.
